Out and About: Breakfast
A personal appointment in uptown New Orleans has lended me the morning to myself, so I take the opportunity to grab some grub at one of my favorite spots, Satsuma. I couldn't exactly tell you wether I purposefully skipped breakfast, or forgot to eat before I left the house. Mornings are a bit of a blur with my insomnia. I wake up around 3am every morning and can't fall back asleep until 5 or 6am- and not because I have a baby. My kid sleeps all night! Either way, a short moment to enjoy a breakfast sandwich alone is a treat, especially when this restaurant isn't packed! Most of the time there's a line of hungry, hungover college students who have rolled out of bed searching for a big plate of pancakes and a cleansing juice. Today, maybe because it's a school day, or maybe because it's Jazz Fest, the restaurant is pretty quiet. I enjoyed an egg, cheddar, and bacon sandwich on a bagel today, but I'm a big fan of their whole menu. I'm usually here with my husband or friends and get to nibble on their pulled pork sandwiches, pancakes, salads, and pastries, but my little bagel sandwich has totally hit the spot. Paired with outdoor seating on a slightly windy, overcast, and quiet day, it's a mini staycation for this busy momma.
While I always enjoy dining out with my family, a peaceful breakfast alone is a welcome treat. I'm recharged and ready for appointment number two, and a late night performing at the historic Carousel Bar at the Hotel Monteleone.
Happy Jazz Fest!
